How did you get into the industry?:

JETSWEAT was a marriage between my professional life and my personal passion for boutique fitness. As a frequent work traveler, I could never find a app that let me take all my favorite classes with me and found myself traveling with my workout DVD and 5 lb weights in my carryon so that I didn’t miss my class that week. Having worked on technology platforms in my past finance career, I got comfortable with that process so set out to create the first digital fitness platform curated around the boutique studio experience.

Emerging industry trends?:

So many. We see lots of studios exploring with digital content so studio customers are really warming up to the experience- it really just takes one time to get hooked.. New class concepts are also emerging all the time and with a greater potential to overdo it, we are big fans of the latest recovery classes- modalities like stretching and mobility that really help keep a routine balanced and alleviate some of the stress.

Industry opportunities and challenges?:

Class prices are higher than ever so for us that presents an opportunity to give people an inexpensive alternative without compromising results. Even if you just stream as a backup plan for when you can’t get to class, streaming just a few classes a month can shave a hundred bucks a month of your fitness spend.

Inspiration for the business idea, and your vision for the Business?:

Although there are endless options for fitness apps and YouTube workouts, I was never interested in any of that and couldn’t bring myself to use them. I think that more and more people have developed a  similar discerning taste for fitness and really just want a curated selection of the best studio classes to go. For many of us it’s hard enough to find the time to work out so the thought of potentially wasting that valuable workout time on something that didn’t produce results wasn’t an option for me.

The future of JETSWEAT will remain about trusted curation of only the best studios. While we’ll continue to shoot fresh new content from each one, you won’t ever see a crowding of low quality studios or mishmash of random videos. Each studio is carefully vetted and chosen based on the merits of their unique methodology, proven success, creative differentiation and highly credentialed talent.

What's next for the Business in the near future?:

We launched mobile-first to cater to an on-the-go consumer and then shortly after came out with a web platform, Chromecast and Airplay. Next in our launch schedule we’ll expand to Android, tvOS, Amazon FireTV, Roku.

We’ll continue to regularly grow our exclusive content base and launch new programs, but more importantly, we are investing in more personalization. We create recommendations and do some workout customization now, but in the future everyone will have a unique profile for one so that upon login you’ll see only your personalized fitness platform, complete with programs that learn and adapt based on your individual needs, preferences, fitness goals and real-time progress.

Your key initiatives for the success of the Business? Greatest Accomplishment?:

Your most difficult moment at the Business? (and what did you learn?):

Our studio partners are supremely important to us and our business model lends itself to mutual and aligned success so one key initiative is helping each one of them achieve success within the digital world. We know that they are already proven leaders in their respective class categories but we are in essence allowing a much greater digital audience to discover their classes remotely.  This involves an ever-improving process that ensures we’re capturing each studio’s authentic experience and best translating it for a remote audience.

Secondly, while most players in digital fitness aim to build the at-home experience, JETSWEAT is aiming to bring fitness everywhere. This means not only catering to frequent travelers, but making it easy for a workout to fit into any part of your day. In order to create this experience, we’re building partnerships that seamlessly integrate fitness anywhere. So this includes anything from stretching and mediation breaks with the iPads in HigherDose infared saunas to a layover workout at the airport lounge or lunchtime yoga at your WeWork office.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?:

So many! We’ve had a lot of difficult times from trying to accomplish goals with the lack of resources at a startup. Having to constantly turn down good opportunities and important needs because of budget issues is hard. But, it also forces you to find new creative ways to just make do with what you have.

How do you motivate others?:

If we can make it any easier for a customer to keep up a quality fitness routine that makes them feel amazing, then that’s a success for us. Working out can be hard enough so lowering those barriers to exercise- whether it be lack of geographic access, affordability, time constraints, kids at home, or anything else- is often the small change it takes to make all the difference.

Career advice to those in your industry?:

Never stop talking to your customers. Our customer feedback gives us better insight into our business than any other resource and has been the source of our most effective product updates. You should also always remain your biggest power user of your own product- it’s so helpful in order to keep learning and iterating.

What do you do best?:

I think I have a pretty good talent for reading people and appreciating their perspectives and underlying motivators.

What makes you the best version of yourself?:

Having the courage to face big challenges. Sometimes you can overcome them and sometimes you can’t, but pushing my personal limits is what causes advancement.

What are your aspirations? (Personal and Business):

Building JETSWEAT into a thriving company is both my biggest personal and business aspiration. Even though it’s business it’s also very personal.

Biggest Success?:

I consider making it in NYC a pretty big accomplishment. I’m from a small town on the west coast and moved here at 21 without any resources or connections so the personal and professional growth over the last 12 years is something I consider a success.

Most Challenging Moment?:

Also moving to NYC. Definitely changed my life but it’s a challenge being far from family so I have to travel a lot.

Motto?:

I have never really had one but if I did it would have to do with fairness and equality.

Favorite People/Role Models?:

Female CEOs at Fortune 500s who have truly raised the bar and helped to alter the landscape of the female C-suite population (currently just 5%) –  Meg Whitman, Marissa Mayer, and Katrina Lake are a few of my favorites.

Favorite Places/Destinations?:

I LOVE Japan. Everything about it from the culture to the people, and especially the food.

Favorite Products/Objects?:

JETSWEAT is of course my all-time favorite product because my co-founder and I developed it to solve a lot of the personal challenges we had- not having enough time to make it to our favorite classes or missing workouts due to work travel.

Current Passions?:

JETSWEAT is my whole life right now and I’m most passionate about continuing to build the company. Outside of that, I love to travel. The other day I decided to count and realized I had been to more than 50 countries, so it’s a big part of how I spend my free time.
