My Native AdVice:
How did you get into the industry?
I started secretly writing songs in high school. I was really shy, but began recording song demos, and performing locally. It didn’t take long for me to gain confidence in finding a voice through music. Shortly after, I moved to Nashville to become immersed in the writing culture.
Career advice to those in your industry?
Surround yourself with people who you want to win with and make cool stuff together. That energy will usually attract good things.
Any emerging industry trends?
Something very exciting is the recent passing of the MMA (Music Modernization Act), which is a legislation reforming outdated music licensing in the digital landscape. It’s a very hopeful step towards getting music creators fairly compensated.
How do you motivate others?
The best way for me to motivate my collaborators is to be present, prepared, and bring a positive energy to the room. It’s important to me that the [artist, writer, producer] feels safe enough to be their most authentic self during our time together – which is really when the best stuff happens!
My Native AdVantage:
My Biggest Success?
My biggest success is being fortunate enough to make my living in music. Personally, it’s much healthier to focus on the big picture of that reality then any specific accomplishments. Successes tend fade as you set your sights higher and higher, so I try to keep perspective.
My Most Challenging Moment?
SO MANY. But what I’m finding challenging now, if I’m being honest, is trying NOT to compare my career progress to others people’s. With social media, we are bombarded 24/7 with victories; big and small. It’s easy to feel unremarkable at times. Some days you have to actively shut down those false thoughts to stay in your magic!
Always be kind.
My Favorite People/Role Models? My family, My friends, & Dolly Parton.
