Career Snapshot:

Stephen Tringali: Stephen went to film school at American University where he was the cinematographer for “Dying Green,” a documentary about the process of green burial that won a Student Academy Award in 2012.

Corridor Four is the first feature-length film that Stephen has undertaken as both director and cinematographer. He is currently raising post-production funds for this film on Kickstarter.

After graduating from AU, Stephen moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a Local 600 focus puller before moving full time into cinematography, and occasionally, directing. Stephen has shot music videos that have been featured on Pitchfork, NPR, Buzzfeed, Noisey, and SPIN; commercials for Stone IPA, BJs Restaurants, ShoreTel Communications, and Energy Sheets; and narratives that have screened at the New York Television Festival, LA Shorts, Sidewalk Film Festival, DC Shorts, Vancouver International Film Festival, and many others.

Maria Bissell: Maria started working in the film industry as an assistant at one of the top talent agencies in Los Angeles and then transitioned into assisting two showrunners in kids’ television.

She has produced a variety of short form content, including music videos, narratives, and sketches, that have been featured on Funny or Die’s front page, NPR’s All Songs Considered, Pitchfork, Stereogum, SPIN, Noisey, and many others.

Corridor Four is the first feature-length project she is producing. She is currently raising post-production funds for this film on Kickstarter.

What do you do best?:

We’ve collaborated on so many projects at this point that we’ve developed a really great understanding of what each other needs in order to make a production work.

In the years leading up to the documentary, we made a variety of music videos and sketches. These shorter projects taught us a lot about budgeting well, creating high quality content with limited resources, and quick decision making skills.

These lessons became invaluable when we decided to make Corridor Four on a very low budget.

What makes you the best?:

We’re always striving to be better at what we do, so it’s difficult to imagine ourselves as being the best at anything. However, we do think that we were in a unique position to be the best ones to tell Isaac Ho’opi’i’s story in documentary form. 

What are your aspirations? (Personal and Business):

Personal: To travel more.

Business: We hope that this documentary can reach as many people as possible and provide viewers with a better understanding of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Biggest Success?:

Wrapping principle photography on Corridor Four.

Most Challenging Moment?:

Because the subject matter of this documentary was very sensitive, it was imperative that we created a comfortable interview environment where people felt they could tell all of the details of their story.
