CTO & Co-founder, Natural Cycles
Elina Berglund is the CTO and co-founder of Natural Cycles – the world’s first, and only, app to be certified as a contraception both in Europe and in the US. She was part of the team that discovered the Higgs boson at the CERN, which led to the Nobel Prize in physics in 2013. Following this success, Elina was looking for an effective natural contraceptive and applied her skills from particle physics to create an algorithm that could accurately pinpoint when a woman is fertile. Elina’s mission is to pioneer women’s health with research and passion – by empowering every woman with the knowledge she needs to be in charge of her health.
A Day in My Life:
What do you love most about Your City?
I’ve been living in NYC for 6 months. We moved over from Stockholm after Natural Cycles became the first app to be cleared as a birth control by the FDA. It’s very exciting to live in a new city and New York has so much to explore!
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
We live in Park Slope, Brooklyn and I love having crepes for breakfast at the Couleur Cafe.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Sleeping! I usually get up at 7:30 am. I need a lot of sleep to be productive during the day.
10:00 AM – Usually I spend all morning in meetings with the Natural Cycles Stockholm office due to the time difference.
12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
The Natural Cycles NYC office is in the financial district, all the way down on Broadway. There aren’t many sit down restaurants in this area, but there is one great Austrian place called “Shilling”.
7:00 PM – It depends. If it’s a day where our babysitter picks up our daughter, then I’d still be in the office. Otherwise I would be home having dinner with my daughter by this time.
11:00 PM – Sleeping again!
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
I drink a lot of water and I guess I’m a little addicted to it. I fill up my bottle roughly once per meeting, so I end up drinking a whole lot of water per day.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
Well except my own Natural Cycles app, I really like the weather app. I’m a bit obsessed with weather, and in NYC it can really vary a lot from day to day, so I’m keeping a close eye 🙂 I also love numbers and statistics, so I often go deeper and look into extra statistics about the weather in different places.
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
I love getting lost looking at data. I can do it for hours and hours. Physically I usually don’t get lost – I have google maps!
