Erika Bloom Pilates
Erika Bloom, veteran Pilates instructor and former professional dancer, has been studying Pilates for over twenty years and teaching in New York City for over fifteen. In 2002 Erika Bloom founded Erika Bloom Pilates, and, along with her staff of handpicked and personally trained experts, has since kept her devoted clientele in tip-top shape. Erika’s vision encompasses movement, healthy habits, and natural, responsible living. Her devotion to holistic wellness led her to the study of many complementary bodywork modalities and methods. She holds dozens of certifications including 600+ hour Pilates mat and apparatus, therapeutic yoga, Klein, Alexander, Feldenkrais, Protocols of Osteoporosis, Muscle Imbalance Assessment and Correction, Nutrition, and Gait Analysis. Erika has extensive training and clinical experience in scoliosis correction, injury rehabilitation and prevention, fascia massage, spinal manipulation, and sports conditioning. She is passionate about working with women throughout all stages of life and is a trained doula and pre and postnatal Pilates and yoga specialist.

When I’m in L.A. I love the ocean and the light. I try to take a sunrise or sunset swim every day that I’m there.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
I always make breakfast with my kids and so it’s my favorite meal. We make different grain-free, protein and fiber full concoctions like buckwheat flax waffles or egg banana ‘pancakes’ or coconut cashew fruit ‘parfaits’ – but my favorite is a savory bowl with the leftover veggies and quinoa from dinner the night before loaded with cilantro and turmeric and topped with hummus and avocado
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Snuggling with my daughter. When my kids wake up my son starts to get ready while my daughter sneaks in bed with me. Then when I get up, she gets a little more sleep while I get one-on-one time with my son. I don’t look at my email until I’m on my commute so that I can have this focused time with them. Mornings are special.
10:00 AM – By 10, I’m at the office working with clients. Being one-on-one with a client, helping them to heal and find balance, is still the most rewarding and enjoyable parts of my job. Even 20 years in, it remains interesting and nourishing for me.
12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
I work through lunch and instead have a smoothie or homemade protein seed ball. If I have a meeting I try to avoid it being a lunch meeting and instead do a ‘walk and talk’ in Central Park. It’s so important to get fresh air and get moving throughout the day.
I always take a Pilates session with one of my teachers mid-afternoon and then have my version of a real lunch after that – usually zoodles (homemade or from Magic Mix) or a jar of roasted veggies and sweet potatoes from home and some collagen broth. I love to cook!
7:00 PM – If it’s a staff education day, then I’m giving a lecture about biomechanics or postural correction or something else interesting like this, but usually I’m home with the kids by now having cooked and had a family dinner.
7pm is homework time and reading time for the kids. While they do this, I sneak in a little more work – answering emails and getting organized for the next day and weeks to come. I put focus on making sure I’m utilizing my in-office time efficiently and that takes planning and organization. There are so many moving parts with all the hats I wear at work and the various locations the company has. This time getting my schedule together is essential. It’s also an important part of preparing for restful sleep. Tying up loose ends releases the anxiety that can surround having ‘to-do’s’.
The next step in my bedtime routine is to do a calming yoga and Pilates session while the kids get ready for bed.
11:00 PM – Always fast asleep. Getting lots of sleep is at the top of my wellness priorities. The extra energy it gives me keeps me going all day with clarity and efficiency so I can get it all done and feel good doing it.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
I talk so much and move so much when I’m working with clients- not to mention as a mom- that I need to be super on top of hydration. I’m constantly drinking something (except during meals where I try to keep my digestive enzymes strong by avoiding drinking). I just love love love a healing drink. My menu is absurdly extensive! Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
FreshDirect! I only use technology to save time – never to waste it – so I grocery shop with the FreshDirect app except during the summer months when I can get local organic ingredients at farm stands. FreshDirect has good choices of local, organic produce year-round and it saves a lot of time to grocery shop on my subway commute.
I also make a lot of playlists on apple music for my classes and just for my home and dinner parties and friends. I love music.
Otherwise, I’m not a user of social media apps or much technology. I simply don’t have the time with owning a company and having children, but I’m also very committed to the Buddhist principles of being present and non-grasping/non-coveting. I find the way some people use Instagram and shopping apps and social media to be very much in conflict with these important principles.
What should everyone try at least once?
Fully disconnecting for a few days – no phones, no computers, no mirrors, maybe even no electricity… I do it a few times a year with wilderness trips. The way you connect to yourself and the earth when you do this is an essential perspective shift.
