Judy Chaikin is a graduate of AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women and gained recognition for writing, producing and directing the Emmy nominated PBS documentary, Legacy of the Hollywood Blacklist. She received her second Emmy nomination for the arts documentary Building on a Dream.  Her short romantic-comedy, Cotillion ‘65, appeared in over 20 film festivals winning Best Short, Best Comedy, Best Director and Audience Choice Awards.

Judy honed her comedy chops in improv groups such as the Committee Workshop, The Synergy Trust and The Groundlings, where she directed and taught for seven years.  She directed the comedy pilot, On The Television, for Nickelodeon and the reality pilot American Families for Fox TV.  Her feature length comedy screenplay, Ai! Chilito, won first place at the Broad Comedy Screenplay Competition and was a national finalist in the Screen Craft Comedy Screenplay Competition.  Judy’s current film, The Girls In The Band, won six Best Documentary Awards, received a critics pick in the New York Times, a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently showing on PBS both Nationally and Internationally. Judy was a Supervising Producer and Director on the ABC series, FBI: The Untold Stories, Co-Producer of the CBS Movie Of The Week, Stolen Innocence, Writer/Director of the bi-lingual PBS documentary, Los Pastores and won the Blue Ribbon at the American Educational Film and TV Festival for the docu-drama, Sojourner Truth:Ain’t I A Woman, featuring Julie Harris.

What do you love most about Your City?

The incredible amount of talented, creative people and the abundance of artistic stimulation.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

Scrambled eggs with lox and onions at Art’s Deli

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – Sleeping

10:00 AM – Either at Zumba Class, Pilates, or at my computer taking care of business.

12:00 PM – Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?

If you’re paying: The Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hill Hotel. A Caesar Salad with anchovies.

If I’m paying: Malibu Fish Grill.  A poke bowl.

7:00 PM –  Either watching Netflix, Jeopardy or a Dodgers Game and eating a home cooked dinner.

11:00 PM – Writing.  I’m a night person and do the bulk of my writing between 9 pm and 1 a.m.

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)? 

Coffee, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Water the rest of the day. Wine at night.

Favorite Instagram Account?  I dropped out of Instagram after receiving too many messages saying “Do not respond to my message…I’ve been hacked. Pass this on to everyone in your contact list.” Life’s too short …
