Career Snapshot:

My Career Snapshot:

I am currently serving as Chairwoman of the Strategic Advisory Board of the omni-channel sports betting and iGaming platform Bet.Works and I am also a consultant in the sports industry.

During the past several years, I served as the Deputy President of Sportradar US, the global technology company that is the leader in analyzing and leveraging the power of sports data. While with Sportradar, I managed 350+ employees with offices in New York, Minneapolis, Menlo Park and San Francisco. During that time, Sportradar was valued at $2.4bn USD. Sportradar applies technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence to drive data insights on a variety of business verticals for the creation of unique experiences across platforms in real time and is the official data partner of the major leagues in the US including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and NASCAR.

As a global thought leader on sports data, sports betting legislation, regulation and sports integrity with speaker engagements around the world including Europe, Australia, North America, Central America and Asia, I have published more than 100+ publications in the top academic and professional journals about sports betting and sports law. I serve as Guest Professor at several Universities including Columbia University NYC, St John’s University NYC, University of New Hampshire and Humboldt University Berlin/Germany on topics such as Sports Law and Sports Integrity.

Previously, I worked several years at the international law firm White & Case LLP in Berlin, Germany and specialized in Sports Law, Gambling Law, Compliance and Litigation. I wrote my PhD in Betting via the Internet in Europe which became a well-recognized book in its field. I worked as Head of Legal and Head of International Development for FIFA’s Early Warning System (FIFA EWS) in Zurich, Switzerland and later became the first Director of Sports Integrity at CONCACAF, the governing body for Soccer in North America, Central America and Caribbean. In this role I was responsible for all 41-member countries including the US, Canada and Mexico. In both positions, at FIFA and at CONCACAF, I used data to prevent, detect, investigate and sanction match manipulations in sports linked to sports betting.

Native AdMission Statement (AKA Personal Brand Pitch):

My work has always been my hobby – I love the intersection of sports and technology, including the sports betting, digital sports and fan engagement sector. My focus is on the use of emerging technologies and developments and how those are changing sports, society and the consumer behavior while simultaneously creating new revenue streams. I have worked in this capacity on an international level in different executive positions. I am recognized as an international expert in my space and was awarded last year for my personal achievements with the Leaders in Sports U 40 Award, the SBJ Game Changers Award and the International Award for Women in the Gaming Industry – Inspiration of the Year and named one of 25 executives to watch in 2019 by the Global Gaming Business magazine.

How did you get into the industry?:

I am a lawyer by trade and started my career at White&Case which is one of the biggest law firms worldwide. I wrote my PhD about Betting via the Internet in Europe and came to the conclusion that the German monopoly on sports betting infringes European Law. Shortly after that, the European Court decided in the same direction which was great. FIFA hired me to help them in understanding the risks and opportunities sports betting could have for the global soccer business. The rest is history.

Emerging industry trends?:

The evolvement of legalized sports betting in the US will change the entire sports industry – it will change how sport fans consume sports, we will see more advanced analytics around sports and it will create new revenue streams for the different stakeholders. Through emerging technologies, it will be possible to use more sophisticated data to entertain fans – think of wearables to collect performance data in-game and in practice or biometric data and how these new data points can be used for a new generation of products in the sports betting and gamification spaces. We are at the very beginning but the impact will be significant.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?:

Bet.Works has a very unique position in the ecosystem. It is an omni-channel sports betting and iGaming platform that enables its customers to offer best in class products in the sports betting space from retail to online. Since the Bet.Works platform is a wholly owned end to end solution, as states continue to pass sports betting legislation our clients will benefit from Bet.Works’ ability to quickly adapt and react to the varying state-by-state regulatory and legal requirements. Also, our platform’s limitless scalability will allow both clients and customers equal satisfaction in knowing that not even the heaviest of site traffic occasions (Super Bowl, March Madness, etc.) will threaten the speed, dependability and availability of our products.

How do you motivate others?:

I believe what’s most important for a leader is to understand that you can only be as good as your team. Everyone needs to be on the same page and understand the mission and strategy around it. Every team member should have the opportunity to speak up and articulate their own opinion. Only through a constructive discussion can the right decision be made.

Career advice to those in your industry?:

I have never been a fan of doing things in a certain way because they have always been done that way. Try to think outside the box and be different. Question common processes and procedures; question certain decisions no matter who made them; if something is not clear to you, don’t be shy in bringing it up. Very often it is wrong or makes no sense and that’s why you don’t get it but others might just to be too afraid to bring it up.

What are your aspirations? (Personal and Business):

On a personal level, the most important thing to me is my family – being a wife and a mother of two young girls. I want them to know that they can achieve what they dream of by being open minded, happy and healthy.

On a business level, I want to work with people I like and respect. I strongly believe in the success of Bet.Works and think it fills a gap in the market. The leadership team is excellent and US based and our focus is on the US market only. Our trading team understands US sports which is often not the case with some of the Europeans coming into the US market. We have seen scandals of wrong or late payouts already in New Jersey and that’s not good for the reputation of this young industry. In summary, I aspire for Bet.Works to boast an industry-wide reputation of having the best product, led by the best leadership team which is fueled by the best trading team. Collectively, this will ultimately result in the Bet.Works product providing the best overall end-to-end customer experience in the entire regulated US market.

Biggest Success?:

Difficult to say – I always try to be successful with everything I am doing. I am incredibly honored to have received three awards last year for my personal achievements in the industrythe Leaders in Sports U 40 Award, the SBJ Game Changers Award and the International Award for Women in the Gaming Industry – Inspiration of the Year. Nevertheless, I hope the biggest success is still laying ahead of me!

Most Challenging Moment?:

I see every challenge as an opportunity for greatness.

Motto?:

If you do something, give 100%. Otherwise just leave it.

Favorite People/Role Models?:

Women working in science and technology.
