A Day in My Life:
What do you love most about Your City?
I love the energy, ideas, creation and diversity of New York City.
I step outside and feel connected to the “modern” human experience. There’s a Fran Lebowitz quote I love, “When you leave New York, you are astonished at how clean the rest of the world is. Clean is not enough.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
I like having water with lemon as soon as I wake. Then coffee. Then something small and easy like cereal with berries almond milk.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – sleeping
10:00 AM – Having check-in meetings with my team
12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
I’m usually eating avocado toast or a smoothie or a sandwich from somewhere local depending on where I’m working that day.
7:00 PM – wrapping up work, heading to meet a friend for dinner or go to an event.
11:00 PM – finishing up some work, while lounging with my roommate in the living room as he watches a show.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
Water with lemon, coffee
My Native AdVice:
How did you get into the industry?
I was leading a wellness community and speaking out about women’s issues. My now co-founder had an idea to bring together all things reproductive + sexual health and thought I’d be great at helping her amplify the platform/ build a movement around it. The more I learned about reproductive and sexual health – the more I realized how little we all knew and the more passionate I became about building this platform.
Career advice to those in your industry?
My biggest career advice is figure out what your values are, what skills come naturally to you, and what makes you happy – then design a career life around those. I was working for a company that sort of aligned with my values, but my role was really unfulfilling and I felt underutilized. Before leaving the job, I decided to try whatever I could to make it work. So I pitched them a role that didn’t exist, explained why I’ perfect for it and how it would increase long term brand resonance and revenue. I added measurables. They heard it, but didn’t create space for me to grow. So I left.
Any emerging industry trends?
It’s trending to reexamine what’s taboo and brand those things as a sophisticated, lifestyle … ie. cannabis, sexual health, biotech, robotics, VR.
How do you motivate others?
I work hard, and with passion and enthusiasm myself. I share authentically with my team and they watch me try new things, walk through challenging circumstances. That seems to give them inspiration to do that themselves. I include their input and ideas in decision making, which keeps them engaged. I make space for them to bring ideas to the table, test them out and learn from them. I ask for feedback reguarly.
My Native AdVantage:
What are my aspirations?
My business goal is this year is to figure out where information and utility intersect and how to build the best product with Cycles+Sex… then go build it and scale it. I want the most people to have easy and empowering access to information and resources about their bodies.
Personal – I want to design and commit to a regiment around self care and money so I can optimize my freedom and human abilities. I want to also find love and partnership with someone who believes in me, pushes me and inspires me. I want to do the same for them.
My Biggest Success?
When I started speaking up and listening to body. It often tells me when something doesn’t feel right, but I used to ignore it and not have the courage to say the truth. I do now.
My Most Challenging Moment?
I feel the most challenged when someone judges my character in a way that makes them not interested in continuing a relationship with me. I think we are all human beings looking to love, be loved and express ourselves. And we each have lots of things we use to protect ourselves, usually related to our childhoods. When someone puts up a wall to connect with me, I feel really sad and challenged. I feel spiritually blocked. But – the best thing I can do is love them from a distance and understand that everyone is on their path and doing their best.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
