Louise Palmberg is a photographer and director specializing in food, portraiture, and lifestyle. She works with clients such as Stranahan’s Whiskey, Hard Rock Café, eBay, The New York Times, and New York Magazine.

Louise is originally from Sweden, but moved to the U.S. five years ago to pursue a career in photography. She graduated at the School of Visual Arts in 2016, and now spends her time freelance. She’s based in New York, but travels frequently. She accidentally found herself in her somewhat specific career after she couldn’t stay away from the restaurant industry. Growing up with parents in the industry gave her an early peek into the fascinating world that is the modern restaurant.

What do you love most about Your City?

I am able to pursue my career within food photography and film in New York, something that was hard to do in my home country of Sweden. There’s a never ending supply of restaurants and interesting food – I love the wide variety.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

A plate of eggs, sausages and one pancake from a real dingy diner is a favorite, but most days I just eat cereal.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – This exact day I wake up in a hotel in Denver around 6, I have been here all week shooting. I get out of bed and find a breakfast restaurant around the corner; I am heading back to New York in a couple of hours.

If I am in New York and not on set, I am 100% sleeping at this hour.

10:00 AM – I arrive at Denver airport. My flight is delayed – the first snow of the season is expected to come at home today, and JFK seems to be a mess.

For a home-day, I would just be getting started with my to-do list, my emails, and my third cup of coffee for the day.

12:00 PM – Finally boarding my flight. Trying to finish up a file transfer over the slow airport network is a nightmare.

Usually on no-shoot days, I have editing to do, scripts to write, or archiving to do. I try to get out of the house, and usually make it to a coffee shop in the area.

Favorite Lunch spot/meal?

Whatever is in my fridge, or on-set food. People are under the impression that I as a food photographer am incredibly selective and have expensive taste when it comes to food – little do they know that I eat whatever I come across when I am at home. Boxed mac n cheese is a favorite.

7:00 PM –  Circling the air above JFK. End up landing three hours late.

When in New York, I’ll probably finish up working by now. Maybe cook dinner with my boyfriend, go get a beer with a friend, or go watch a movie.

11:00 PM – Watch Great British Bake Off with my roommate and eat pasta. I’m so beat, but have the rest of the week off, thank god.

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Growing up in Sweden, the most important drink of the day is definitely coffee. I need approximately 3 cups a day to keep me going.

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

My Screen Time feature on my iPhone will tell me Instagram is by far my most used app, I use it to keep up with new restaurants, save inspiration from accounts that inspire me, and send dog pictures to my friends.

My favorite Instagram accounts are all my colleagues who keep inspiring me by publishing their newly created work. It is an incredible push in the right direction seeing people around you working hard and never stopping.

What should everyone try at least once?

Move abroad, if you have the opportunity to. I was lucky to be able to get a college education here in the U.S., and it brought me to my home, my friends, and my career. If I hadn’t been able to attend SVA in Manhattan, I don’t know what I would be doing right now.
