Optimization coach & Yoga instructor
Mary Spirito is an optimization coach and yoga instructor under the brand Ritual and Routine where she investigates the intersection of the holistic and scientific to provide knowledge and actionable steps behind health and wellness principles and trends. As an Optimization coach, Mary’s unique and effective approach has helped to empower countless women in their health by helping them to unblock limiting beliefs holding them back from achieving sustainable health. She works not only with the clients internally facing world by helping her clients to establish an optimized nutritional foundation, but also helps her clients to shape the lens through which they view themselves (their worth, their relationships, their career) in the context of the world external to themselves. The marriage of optimizing these internal and external pieces is how she has been able to create lasting and sustainable change for women across the US. Mary uses yoga in her optimization coaching practice to help heal the physical body and the emotional body. Prior to working as a coach, Mary worked in both neuroscience research, at the University of South Carolina, and cancer research, at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and considers the science of psychology and biochemistry to be the backbone of her practice. Mary is face mask connoisseur, and a shameless lover of fitness classes, bio hacks, and gluten free banana bread.
My goal of the day changes, but I will say that the driving force always comes down to two things: 1) What do I need to do to create magnetism and opportunity today 2) What do I need to do or create to provide value and support for my clients, community, and my personal relationships (including myself).
Where do I feel stuck or where am I finding resistance- and how am I going to break through it to claim empowerment on the other side?
move. that. body.
Wrote a little note to tell someone how much I appreciate them, never underestimate the power of sweet nothings.
Fail faster, learn more, get better. If you’re not uncomfortable, you’re doing it wrong- fear is your biggest compass.
New York City is the city of abundance. Abundant energy, abundant opportunity- in New York, you can create and be whoever you need to be to fulfill your life’s purpose and people will “pick up” what you’re “puttin; down”, you know what I mean.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
Brassica’s bowl at Two Hands cafe- It’s just this delicious bowl of crunchy veggies, poached eggs, and hummus – oh, with a side of bacon of course (crunchy or bust). Here’s the recipe: https://thefullest.com/2017/07/11/two-hands-brassicas-bowl/
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Hopefully sleeping unless something’s amiss. This girl needs her sleep. I get up around 6:30am/7am
10:00 AM – Either seeing my optimization coaching clients or working on programming for my clients. OR creating content for my bad*ss community.
12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
Lunch spot, does my apartment count? If not, Cafe Clover. My favorite lunch meal is some large loud leafy green salad with seasonal veggies, avocado, and wild salmon drizzled in some quality EVOO.
7:00 PM – Depending on the day: Seeing clients, going to a health and wellness event, or making it rain in the kitchen (I love to cook).
11:00 PM – Hopefully asleep. If not, I’m listening to a meditation podcast if I need to burn off some cognitive calories. OR I’m giggling in my bed as I watch The Office if still have a few laughs in me.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
CELERY JUICE. Always start my day with 16oz of fresh celery juice (by itself) to cleanse and energize my body and to create an alkaline base for my day. I like coffee, but coffee doesn’t like me- so I’m caffeine free. To end the day, I like to do Sakara’s detox water droplets in 8 oz of water. The Detox water has chlorophyll, silica and minerals to detox and hydrate the body before bed.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
The notes section of my phone is a WILD place full of musings, to-do lists, and programming- it sees a lot of action. But most used is probably instagram where I am connecting and engaging with my fantastic community. Favorite instagram account: This is like asking me to pick a favorite child, so I’m going to give you a few: @veeshoney because she’s electric and gives scientific backed health and wellness advice (I feel like we’re soul sisters), @sweatsandthecity for keeping it real and giving advice on all the latest in the fitness world, @_nitch for thought provoking quotes and advice.
What should everyone try at least once?
Can I say quitting your day job to chase your day dream?
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
Phew, in my journal, self exploration is equally eye opening and fulfilling. A lot of growth has been born out of me running through my stream of consciousness in my journal.
