AdMission Statement (AKA Personal Brand Pitch):

My AdVantage

What do you do best?:

My personal strengths are my character and my critical thinking skills. At It’s Yoga Kids®, we see kids and parents for who they are, we meet them where they are, and we illuminate their potential so they can be their best. Through Yoga, we teach critical skills to develop happy, healthy and successful habits, and I think we do it better than any other activity for kids can do.

What makes you the best version of yourself?:

My intuition and my tenacity have served me well in life. I’m the best version of myself when I listen, when I’m empathetic, and when I stay connected to my Yoga practice, both on and off the mat, so I can serve myself and others.

What are your aspirations? (Personal and Business):

Personally, I want to incorporate more travel and dedicated play/media-free relaxed time with my ambitious family, including our busy teenagers. Our world seems to be moving faster and getting more stressful!

The impact of digital consumption on the brain and body is unknown, but the outlook is not good. The latest research indicates, nearly half (50%) of today’s children will develop a mood disorder, behavioral disorder or substance abuse problem by age 18.

Our goal is to integrate It’s Yoga Kids® everywhere; at home, at school, in sports and in performing arts. We envision every parent, educator, youth coach and performing arts instructor incorporating the unparalleled benefits of Yoga into their time with kids. Whatever the achievement or struggle, the research-backed practices of movement, meditation and mindfulness are proven to help.

Biggest Success?:

My biggest success to date is ensuring my family and It’s Yoga Kids® thrive! When we opened in 2005, we had a 3 year old, and a new baby. Very few kids in the community had been exposed to Yoga. With three years of research and development to teach Yoga to kids safely and successfully, and our life savings invested, we were optimistic, but uncertain. Kids LOVED it, but we had to work very hard to educate parents and educators about its benefits, and why Yoga should be a priority for child development. Over a decade later, we have taught and trained over a thousand teachers and families worldwide and It’s Yoga Kids® is becoming a thought leader and influencer for children’s wellness.

Most Challenging Moment?:

Personally, the most challenging moment in my life was moving to San Francisco in 1991 with this boy I met, and fell in love with, in the Caribbean. We had big dreams and little-to-no support or network – these were pre-internet days! Twenty-five plus years later, we’re still here, together.

The most challenging moment for It’s Yoga Kids® was in 2008. In the toddler stage of our business, we suffered difficult losses. Faced with losing our lease and having lost our studio manager and lead teachers, it was up to me to keep this business baby alive. I knew that if we could make it in San Francisco with three strikes against us (1. cost of real estate, 2. high rate of dual-income parents, and 3. fewest number of children ages 13 and under), we could make it anywhere.

Looking back I’m not totally sure how we did it. We re-negotiated our studio agreement. I taught ALL the classes myself and learned how to fine-tune our curriculum increasing our age range to reach the most challenging ages, toddlers and teenagers. We committed to ensure the BEST experience possible for every family. With that in place, we trained more teachers and placed them in schools. I’m so grateful for our talented and dedicated team, for the schools that believed in our mission and the results we realized.

My mother learned from her mother, and taught me, This Too Shall Pass. It’s as good reminder that nothing is permanent.

My dad taught me, Attitude Determines Altitude, and to always find ways to make things work.

My husband reminds me to Relax and Win. These happen to be his initials. 😉

An enduring lesson from Larry Schultz, Founder of It’s Yoga, is: Go With the Flow. I live by those words both on and off the mat.

My dog reminds me to Cuddle and Leap Cheerfully Everyday because it’s nourishing and fun!

My kids remind me that I am flawed, and I am Loved.

I remind myself to Breathe fully.

Favorite People/Role Models?:

My family and friends who are always there for me!

Kids are my role models; they know how to be fully present.

Parents and teachers are the most important people in our kids’ lives; they determine the future we create.

I admire every leader who values education and equality.

Favorite Places/Destinations?:

My favorite destination is home. To me, San Francisco is the most beautiful place on earth. I also enjoy New York City, Europe, Asia, Mexico and as many places as I am blessed to explore. I have special place in my heart for where I grew up in Arizona with its stunning sunsets.

Favorite Products/Objects?:

My favorite products are non-toxic. I appreciate quality design in fashion and furnishings. My MacBook Pro and iPhone are miracles in action!

Current Passions?:

I’m excited about the future! My passion is to manifest my vision for my family, and for our business of building individual skills that create healthy bonded families and safe caring communities, to make the world a better place, with ease.
