Executive Director, Take Stock in Children Palm Beach
Take Stock in Children, Inc. is a nonprofit organization, transforming Florida one student at a time. Working in every county throughout Florida, our mission is to break the cycle of poverty for low-income, academically qualified students by providing opportunities for a post-secondary education. We offer college scholarships to students, provide caring volunteer mentors, and instill hope for a better life. Our comprehensive services begin in middle school, continue through high school, and include students’ transition into college and career.
Mrs. Stellway is the Executive Director of Take Stock in Children Palm Beach County, a nonprofit organization that provides wrap around support services to low-income at-risk youth in Palm Beach County, Florida. The program works with students as early as middle school, through high school and until college completion. As a true collaborator she was instrumental in establishing a partnership with her local school district and a funder which brought out the best of both programs while providing more students with college readiness and mentors. This partnership also played a key role in the founding of Achieve Palm Beach County, a collective impact group focused on the college and career readiness. She is also a Leadership Palm Beach County Class of 2018 alumni and a Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship Nonprofit Executive Program graduate. She offers peer to peer mentoring to others in the nonprofit sector.
As a leader, she encourages team members to voice their input and work together for solutions. Because of that, the program continues to evolve and implement new program services, now becoming a model program within the state. Nancy is patient when it comes to training new team members, but understands what it takes to motivate her team to work efficiently to better serve our students and our community.
My goal today is to finally secure a surprise vacation for my husband and I to celebrate 23 years of marriage.
I am so appreciative for my amazing team at Take Stock in Children who work so hard to do the right things for kids.
Focusing has been a struggle today but once everyone leaves today I will finish my work before heading home.
Secured more donations for our kids including tablets and gift cards.
Listen more than you talk.
A Day in My Life:
What do you love most about Your City? I was born and raised in Palm Beach County. After moving away and living in California for over 10 years, I returned to Palm Beach County to raise my children. Palm Beach County is so incredily beautiful complete with palm trees, over 20 miles of beautiful beaches and incredible weather. From the island of Palm Beach to our agricultural areas in Belle Glade and Pahokee, our populations are extremely diverse as is the income disparity. Yet our community continues to amaze me with their generosity to lift up others.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
Each morning I love a cup of coffee with hazelnut creamer. I either make myself an egg white omelet or enjoy a protein shake. On Saturdays, I enjoy making my family Belgium waffles.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – I rarely need to set an alarm as my dogs wake me before 6:00 am. After walks and feeding, I take a few minutes to answer the first of my emails and prioritize my day. Then it is time for my shower and quick breakfast. On the weekends however, it is time to lace up my shoes and get in a 3 mile run.
10:00 AM – On Mondays, I hold a meeting with my team at 10:00 am.Other days, my schedule varies so much that I could be off site at a collective impact meeting or meeting with a donor.
12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
My favorite lunch spot is eating in our office kitchen while spending a few minutes catching up with people personally. A healthy salad with avocado is usually on the menu followed by a piece of dark chocolate.
7:00 PM – Home from working out at the gym and making dinner for my family while enjoying a glass of cabernet sauvignon. My meals are not very elaborate but sitting at the table together is very important to me. After dinner and cleaning up, I spend time on social media or catching a movie.
11:00 PM – I am usually asleep before 11:00 pm as my body needs between 7 – 8 hours of sleep. However, that doesn’t mean I stay asleep all night. When I awake in the middle of the night, usually once a night, I text myself reminders for the next day or pre-schedule emails to be sent early in the morning.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
I start my day with a cup of coffee followed by several bottles of water throughout the day. In order to perform best while lifting weights or runing, I drink pre-workout. I do enjoy a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon in the evenings.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
I value social media both personally and professionally. Facebook and Twitter are my favorites as I can catch up with friends and get my news all in one place. My favorite Instagram account is @KelsyWells. She not only posts great workout videos but great motivational messages as well.
