Career Snapshot:

My name is Shanna Hutcheson and I was born and raised in the Kansas City area. I am the Registered Dietitian and Health & Wellness Blogger behind the brand Wellness For The Win. The mission of Wellness For The Win is to inspire and empower others to take control of their health by making peace with food, and respecting their body in the process. I believe that living a healthy lifestyle should be fun, flavorful, flexible and affordable. I love to show others how to make healthy easy through real food, eating intuitively, exercising often and practicing regular self-care. I believe that true wellness is a combination of all of these things, and I love to teach women that the number on the scale is the least interesting thing about them.

What makes you the best version of yourself?:

I think my drive, work ethic and passion have all helped get me to where I am today. I am incredibly passionate about helping others become the best version of themselves, and I believe that making peace with food and one’s body are a large piece of that equation.

I am the best version of myself when I am fueling my body properly (not restricting), exercising often in ways that I enjoy, spending time with people I love, and engaging in regular self-care, even if that just means getting 8 hours of sleep each night!

What are your aspirations? (Personal and Business):

Personal Aspirations: I would love to be a mom someday.

Business Goals: I want to continue to grow a successful, profitable business that inspires women all over the world to love and take care of themselves every day. I would also love to write a book about my personal health journey as well as my journey starting and growing my business.

Your key initiatives for the success of the Business?

One of the things that I believe has helped me be successful with my business is my integrity. I only work with brands that I truly love and believe in, and I know my audience appreciates that, and has learned to trust me because of it.

Other initiatives that I believe have contributed to my success:

  • Consistently sharing things that I am genuinely passionate about, whether that is a product, a brand or a personal experience

  • Providing valuable, informative content that benefits my audience and is applicable to their daily lives

  • Being HONEST, transparent and genuine about my successes AND struggles as a social media influencer, dietitian and woman in general

Your most difficult moment at the Business? (and what did you learn?) 

As a dietitian and intuitive eating advocate, my biggest challenge is constantly competing with the diet industry. Unfortunately, we live in a society that places a lot of value on body weight and appearance, and fad diets are extremely popular, even though they don’t work long-term. Everyone is looking for a “quick fix” or “magic bullet”, rather than something that is realistic and sustainable for the long haul. It is difficult to compete with flashy programs and big promises in regards to weight loss and “health”, but as a health professional, I have to stick with what I know to be true, as well as strategies that are safe and effective for my audience and clients.

How do you motivate others?

I use a non-diet, intuitive eating approach to health and nutrition, and have found these principles to really resonate with a lot of my clients. Most of the people I encounter have been yo-yo dieting for most of their lives, and frankly, they are tired of it. Intuitive eating offers a more gentle, realistic and long-term approach that is focused on an individual’s overall well-being, not their weight.

I try to motivate and inspire others by showing them that we have more similarities than we do differences. We are all human, and we all have a lot of the same struggles when it comes to food, exercise, body image, self-confidence, etc. I like to validate those feelings and experiences, and then show people how they can overcome them, and rise up stronger, happier and healthier.

A Day in My Life:

What do you love most about Your City?

I am from Kansas City, which is a pretty big city with a small town feel. Everyone is kind to one another, and it seems like everyone knows each other somehow!

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

I order avocado toast at almost every breakfast/brunch place I visit. It never disappoints! The Chef in Manhattan, KS has the best breakfast, hands down.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – usually working out at my fitness studio with my husband (high-intensity workout classes that incorporate strength training + rowing machines)

10:00 AM – working at my full-time job, likely answering emails, ideally sipping on iced coffee.

12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?

Anywhere I can get a big, fresh salad with grilled salmon on top, but I typically pack my own lunch for work to save money, and it tends to be healthier than going out! I also love to take a walk outside and get some fresh air after lunch.

7:00 PM –  cleaning up after dinner, packing lunches for the next day, winding down for the evening to watch a show on Netflix with my husband and 2 dogs before we head up to bed.

11:00 PM – I am usually already asleep for 1.5-2 hours at this point! We go to bed around 9 PM so we can get our early morning workouts in.

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

I drink a ton of water all day long. I only drink coffee a few times a week; more for the taste than the “energy” benefits. It doesn’t always make me feel my best, so I try to limit my caffeine consumption.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

Anywhere on vacation with my husband! We love exploring new cities together. The Lake is my happy place. : )
