200 RYT YOGA TEACHER & OWNER, SYRACUSE YOGA
Syracuse Yoga believes that Yoga is for everybody, Yoga is for every BODY. Encompassing total mind and body wellness, Syracuse Yoga meets students where they are at in their practice in an all inclusive, safe space that creates community through Yoga practice.
Sophie Tashkovski is the owner of Syracuse Yoga in Syracuse, NY. Sophie began a dedicated yoga practice as a repose from her stressful corporate job in Boston, MA. Yoga helped Sophie get better balance in her life, and when a downsizing occurred at work, she completed her 200 hour teacher training in Boston at Charlestown Yoga. The training was a conduit for change; after 13 years in Boston, Sophie returned to Central New York where she teaches Yoga full time while completing her 500 hour Advanced Yoga Training with Tiffany Cruikshank’s Yoga Medicine program. Sophie teaches all styles of Yoga, focusing on Anatomical Vinyasa, and ensuring students are practicing safely and learning proper alignment.
I think my greatest strength is my ability to bring people together. I’ve always been the person that stays in touch with friends and creates opportunities for people to meet and grow their circle of friends.
There’s no question-my authenticity and honesty make me the best version of myself. I am happiest when I am true to my personal beliefs and am my true authentic self.
I aspire to grow the Yoga community in Syracuse, to grow my business Syracuse Yoga and create a continuum of care between Yoga teachers and other health care providers- I want my clients to get the most comprehensive care and feel the best they can in their bodies everyday.
The biggest and scariest thing I have done to date is quitting my corporate job to follow my passion-teaching Yoga. I consider this my greatest success because I have never been as happy in my life-I have found my true calling.
It was hard to leave Boston after living there for 13 years, but I knew I needed to change my geography in order to make my dreams a reality. As challenging as it was to sell a condo in Boston, buy a house in Syracuse, pack up, leave my Boston community, create a new community in Syracuse, and start a new job that I soon after quit, it was all worth it!
Yoga for everybody, Yoga for every BODY!
My Syracuse Yoga community, my many “best” friends, my teacher/mentor Tiffany Cruikshank, The Rock, and Mick Jagger. Oh, and he’s not a person, but my cat Georgie is my most favorite everything.
My family is from Macedonia. It is a beautiful country and I felt incredibly connected to the land and the energy there. I love eating my way through Europe, especially Italy. I had a day in Sienna I will never forget back in 2010. I have close friends in the San Francisco area and I always love my visits there.
I am an avid collector of vintage items, and the more I have of them the better! I love loving cup trophies, brass peacocks, Mr. Peanut iron banks, Rolling Stones t-shirts, and vintage rugs. I will never have enough.
My boyfriend got me a record player for my birthday with great speakers; I love listening to vintage vinyl!
I love gardening and canning vegetables with my Dad. I’ve never met a flea market I didn’t like! I dabble in interior design with my side business, Soflea. It’s a creative outlet where I decorate homes and hunt for vintage treasures.
Yoga for Everybody, Yoga for EveryBODY!
That is waaaaay too hard of a question to answer!
I am training to be an educator for Ophelia’s Place, a non profit that helps anyone with eating disorders and disordered eating. I have a bunch recommended books for the training ready to read!
I think it’s crucial for a Yoga Studio to feel like a welcoming space to all. I designed the lobby of Syracuse Yoga to feel like people were walking into their own living room, with a vintage rug and comfy furniture. The studio space is calming, with dark pewter walls, natural light, and plenty of plants.
