Founder & CEO, Cleo & Coco
With a background in Marketing an Management, our founder, Suzannah Raff worked in high tech and was part of the first tech bubble in the late 1990’s. Fast forward a few years, she started a family in her 30’s and after a fast paced life in tech and friends’ diagnosed with breast and other cancers, she began to start making healthy decisions for her body. Like many of us, she became hyper aware of everything that she put into or onto her pregnant and nursing body – especially deodorants. Many began warning her against the aluminum, talc and toxins found in conventional deodorants. Being a newly married mother, she wasn’t happy with the idea of having to choose between going non-toxic or living with body odor. Not finding a natural deodorant alternative that worked for her, she returned to her love of essential oils and research, creating the combination of natural, non-toxic, healing ingredients like coconut derived activated charcoal, bentonite clay and essential oils that lead to the creation of Cleo&Coco, named for her commitment to CLean ingredients with COCOnut essence.
People always ask me, “how do you know how to make this stuff?”. Well, here’s my story. My grandfather was a chemist and came to New York from Europe right after the war and built a very successful spice factory with his brother. So I say its in my blood. Really, its in my fingertips and my nose. I can smell a new dish and recreate it from sensing the spices. Same with perfumes. When I was younger and wore synthetic perfumes I used to mix them up and create my own. And when I discovered therapeutic essential oils, I was in heaven, creating scents and healing products for friends and family for the last 15 years, just for fun.
When I became more health conscious in my 30’s, I couldn’t find a natural deodorant that kept me completely odor free. So I turned to my knowledge of essential oils and channeled my creative sense of smell into developing a deodorant that completely absorbs odor from the first time you use it, that is natural and gentle enough for everyday use and is enhanced by fresh and delicious scents. Cleo&Coco deodorants smell sweet, minty, citrusy or bold, depending on the scent you choose and are created without any synthetic ingredients but instead, use essential oils that are therapeutic and nurturing for the body.
As soon as you apply our deodorants and powders, odor, which is caused by bacteria build-up from clogged underarm glands, is eliminated along with excess wetness. Activated charcoal absorbs odors, toxins, bacteria, oil, and water, supporting your body’s daily natural detox process, leaving you odor free, throughout your most challenging moments – like a business meeting, hiking in 110-degree desert or a spin class – with scents that are so good you can’t wait to apply them!
