200 RYT YOGA TEACHER
My name is Trisha Curling. I have always valued the benefits of fitness and an active lifestyle. I worked as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor between the years of 2002 -2007. At which time I decided to take my teaching skills into an Elementary School classroom for a more “stable career”. During my time as a teacher, I incurred many injuries, loss of mobility, and an increased amount of weight gain due to inactivity and the devastating loss of my older brother/best friend. Many doctors told me that I should accept my fate and that I should simply modify my lifestyle in order to simply manage my injuries as best as possible. Determined to live the life I knew I could, I finally took control by hiring a trusted old friend to train me and to help to bring me back to life. I re-certified as a Personal Trainer with Can Fit Pro in December 2015 and completed my 200 Hr. Yoga Teacher Certification with Yoga Medicine and Tiffany Cruickshank in Napa Valley, California in August 2016. I am currently working towards my 500Hr. certification, which helps me to work more therapeutically with my clients. Yoga and fitness truly have been medicine for me and I am eager to share my experiences in the hopes that it may help and/or inspire others to take control back of their own lives.
The thing I believe I do best is get back up again. The challenges I have faced in my life are no bigger or different than what anyone else faces, in fact they are probably less, but whatever they have been, they have been mine to face. I have experienced time periods in my life that I didn’t believe I would ever recover from, but a voice deep inside always helped me to know that I would eventually, so listening to that voice and getting up again are what I believe I do best.
The most important quality that makes me the best version of myself is resilience. No matter what life has thrown my way, I always know that I can overcome any obstacle. I have a fierce fire inside of myself that always reminds me that I have the power to choose to strive and conquer any goal I set for myself. Keeping this at the forefront of my mind helps me to stay focused.
I love to travel and would love to do more of it. I have aspirations of travelling to see many different parts of the world for both personal and professional pursuits. Last year I went to Spain for the Hip Module with Yoga Medicine and that was a dream come true. After the training I spent a few days in Madrid exploring on my own and I was so carefree and content. I would love to have more trips exactly like that.
My biggest success is the relationship I have with my daughter. It makes me so proud to see that she has become a very strong young woman in pursuit of her own dreams. She is a talented artist and I love that she has stayed true to her desire to study and pursue art. We have a very close relationship and I believe that is attributed to my candor with her. We are able to laugh together, yet still understand and respect each other’s roles in our lives.
My most challenging moment was standing in the moment of being told that my older brother and best friend had passed away. I was numb and didn’t really believe it. The shock stayed with me for a very long time and I was “dead inside” for four years after he passed. I didn’t see at the time that it was simply a blessing to take me away from the life I was living and move towards a more happier and fulfilling life. I was blessed to have him for a brother and best friend. I took everything he ever taught me and poured it into healing myself and now hopefully and humbly helping others who have experience pain in their own lives too.
I have 2 actually…
1. Everything happens for a reason.
Whether positive or negative, everything that happens is geared to move you forward into the next stage of your life. We all learn lessons within a given situation, so it is important to listen and receive the information we need to grow and move forward.
2. Once life, one chance.
This became so real to me after losing my brother. I truly understood that I was robbing myself if I did not pursue what I am passionate about on a daily basis, both personally and professionally. We really don’t know if tomorrow will come, so we owe it to ourselves to choose and embrace happiness as often as we humanly can.
My favourite person in the whole world was my older brother Andrew. He was the type of older brother that truly let me be myself. He never imposed any limits onto me. He taught me so many life lessons and we shared everything as best friends would. We were 8 years apart, but there was no space in time between us. Him, my younger brother Kevin and myself have so many memories of laughing until we cried. We have so many stories and secrets between us. We are always there for one another and fiercely protect the others at all costs.
Andrew lived his life like there was no tomorrow. He was fearless in his actions no matter what anyone else’s opinion was. This kept him true to himself and this is what I try to emulate now.
I love Jamaica because I love the warmth and beauty of the beaches and the people. Also, when I spent time in Madrid it felt like home. It was only a few days, but it fulfilled every expectation I ever had. I know being on vacation, a different part of the world can feel very romanticized, but when my soul and energy feel aligned, I trust and go with it.
Saje Wellness Pocket Pharmacy! Hands down! I can’t live without this stuff anymore. Oh, and my eye pillow too! LOL My nighttime routine has never been the same since I discovered this heavenly kit! I apply a little Peppermint Halo to my forehead, put on my eye mask, so a little deep breathing and I’m out!
