FOUNDER & CEO, FIELD CONSULTING
Chris Rumfitt founded Field Consulting in January 2014. Before that, he was Managing Director at Edelman and Head of External Communications at Network Rail. Going back further Chris worked in Tony Blair and Alastair Campbell’s formidable media operation in 10 Downing Street. During nearly 20 years in political and media consultancy, Chris has worked in most sectors. But transport, energy, housing and infrastructure are particularly close to his heart.
What do you love most about Your City?
London is the most diverse, vibrant and international city on the planet. It’s a cliché, but it really is the whole world in one city.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
The aim is to start the day healthily with fruit and coffee, but if I’m eating out its got to be scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Probably at the Delaunay on Aldwych.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Waking up, drinking coffee, chatting to the kids.
10:00 AM – Typically, there will be a morning client meeting. Most of our work is in sectors like housing, property, rail, aviation and energy. Heavy and political sectors with real problems to get your teeth into get me enthused.
12:00 PM – Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?
Based near Borough Market, we’re blessed with countless sensational lunch spots. The Union Street Café is a particular favourite, being next to our first offices when we were a start-up of three people.
7:00 PM – At least half the days there is some sort of post-work social. Could be with a client, a prospect or with employees. Our jobs are about relationships so this stuff is hugely important – at least as much as what you do during the working day.
11:00 PM – Ideally, bed. I perform best with 7 hours sleep and I try to get the light off around now.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
Oh that’s easy – coffee. About four cups a day only though, I don’t go overboard.
And at the end? It could be beer, it could be wine or it could be G&T. All depends on the mood!
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
Twitter. For all its faults, it is fastest way to get news, views and insights on the subjects I am most interested in.
What should everyone try at least once?
Taking a big risk. I left a job I loved in a company I respected because I wanted to buzz of starting out on my own. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
I’m a terrible control freak. Getting lost sends me into a panic and I’ll be straight on Google Maps!!
