Career Snapshot:

Remember when Oprah gave away 276 Pontiac G6s? Danny was a part of that brand integration that made marketing history. But then again, Danny has always thought big. Danny began his career as a creative after earning his MBA and spending two years on the client side as a brand manager. He was Chief Creative Officer and cofounder of urban culture-focused ad agency, Vigilante at a time when the idea of specialized firms was a relatively new notion. He was The Martin Agency’s lead creative director on the biggest new business win in the company’s history — Walmart. He was even voted by the Stand-Up New York Comedy Club as “one of the funniest men in advertising.” And he most recently, be has brought his career full circle transitioning from Group Creative Director at The Martin Agency to Chief Client Officer.

At Vigilante, Danny was the creative leader and writer behind award-winning campaigns for Sprint, Major League Baseball, Snapple, Heineken, Pontiac and advertising and event business for Johnnie Walker Black Label. He wrote and art directed the first television commercials for Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, Stewart Scott and The Roots’ Black Thought. During Danny’s time as chief creative officer, Vigilante was awarded the AAAA Multicultural Agency of the Year Award two years in a row and three times in the first four years of the agency’s history. At The Martin Agency he has applied his sharp wit and strategic mind to brands like The Alliance for Climate Protection, Pizza Hut, Hanes, Tic Tac, Chevrolet, OREO and the AMC Network.

In addition to his numerous industry awards for creativity, Danny was the recipient of two ADCOLOR Awards: The 2008 Innovators Award and 2010 One Club ADCOLOR Award for creative excellence for his body of work and service in the industry. He attended Hampton University where he earned his bachelor of science in art education, and received his Master of Business Administration from Atlanta University

My Action of the Day:

Help my teams find ways to elevate the work we do with the goal to impact culture.

My Deed of the Day:

Helped an elderly stranger, who had overindulged in holiday cheer, get up off the ground and into his house. He was a priest, so bonus points.

My Tip of the Day:

Purchase WTW stock this month. But only if you’re not going to blame me if you lose money.

A Day in My Life:

What do you love most about Your City?

There’s so much to love about Richmond, particularly now. The food scene has exploded. The arts scene is as good or better than any major metropolitan city anywhere. And it is amazing to see lively and open conversations about race; that’s not always the case, particularly in the South.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

While disappointing both my doctors and parents; I usually skip breakfast. Unless you count an occasional coffee from Urban Farmhouse. And on those rare occasions when I do eat something, it’s either Irish oatmeal or a Virginia ham and egg sandwich.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – Finishing up a 10-mile run and gearing up to for my hour bike ride around the perimeter of the city before my swim… nah, not really. I’m snoring.

10:00 AM – Just getting my marching orders from my assistant, Kelly. Her morning briefings are the way I know which way is up.

12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal? It’s a rotating cadre of top-notch food carts. The River City Wood Fire Pizza and Gelati Celesti Ice Cream trucks are particular favorites.

7:00 PM –  Catching up on all of the emails I didn’t get to during the day. Getting in an hour or two of painting—canvases not walls.

11:00 PM – I love the night, so I’m catching my second wind; bouncing between more work related things and watching whatever’s next up to bat on the DVR/Netflix/Hulu/Prime.

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

I am ridiculously productive on coffee, but don’t drink any after noon. Water or hot herbal tea throughout the day (on some Erykah Badu tip). If I’m out, bring on the Manhattan—Four Roses Bourbon on the rocks, please.

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

SiriusXM starts the morning and ends the day with a liberal sprinkling thoughout./I have a friend with a dope eye for images. Follow him: “@prettytony”

What should everyone try at least once?

Stand-up comedy at an open mike night.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

On an airplane with a pair of Sony noise-cancelling headphones and my Spotify playlists.
