How did you get into the industry?:

The two areas that I have found most interesting in recent roles are content creation and the fast-moving and innovative pace of digital change. VR is the perfect intersection of these passions.

Emerging industry trends?:

We are really excited at HP since we just launched the new HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset. It has gotten incredibly positive press reception. The focus in building this headset was on high resolution and comfort. It is on sale now and will be shipping late April. We are so excited about taking the industry a step further with this new VR header and can’t wait for everyone to try the HP Reverb out.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?:

I was on the media and TV side for a long time prior to HP. The person who focuses on Enterprise/ Military/First Responder Training for VR was a Marine. Many of the people in our Omen esports and gaming division were professional gamers at the highest levels. HP has done a great job of bringing people together to work on these emerging technology lines of business who have deep expertise, passion for and relationships in their areas. This impacts the vision, strategy, products, the processes and I think positively impacts our entire business and our partner’s experiences with us.

How do you motivate others?:

The best way to motivate ourselves and others is with a bigger vision. What is the “Why” behind what we are doing and why does it matter?

Career advice to those in your industry?:

Working in Virtual Reality and Immersive Computing is a new business. People come to this business from Gaming, Engineering, TV, Film, Animation, VRX, Immersive theater, Academia, pro-social work. We come from so many different backgrounds but each person is contributing to building this industry into what it will be. There are so many needs in the field: Engineering, product management, business development, sales, marketing, PR, legal, finance, etc. If you have a passion for working in this field, curiosity to take the initiative and learn about it, and drive to make it happen, you can get a job in it and contribute.

If you’re in the field, I’d say: Stick with it if you can. Working in Emerging tech and content can be a roller-coaster but it will be rewarding and we need your voice and your personal contribution.

What are your aspirations? (Personal and Business):

Achieve a world, a work force, and leadership structures where we are all represented.

“We have all the time in the world.” – Jennifer Grace

This means to be intentional and proactive about getting it all done but not to stress or worry about getting things done because stress isn’t helpful and can be counterproductive in getting important things done.

Motto?:

What Else To Know

Tell Us More:

My Daily Thoughts:

Goal of the Day: Let’s build a new wave in computing

Thought of the Day: Let’s make sure all of our voices are represented in this wave of computing

Action of the Day: 7am yoga

Deed of the Day: Make a positive impact for another woman or URG in tech

Tip of the Day: Head to the closest Location Based Entertainment venue and get ready to have a blast!

What do you love most about Your City?

What I love about Los Angeles is that it has an active thriving, creative and innovative media, arts and tech scene

And it also has palm trees. I prefer to live in a city with palm trees.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

I usually eat breakfast at home before I head to a Classpass class. Or in the hotel if I’m traveling. I generally eat a Cliff Bar which is basically a candy bar masquerading as a healthy breakfast.

My favorite restaurant is Joe’s Stone Crabs in Miami.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – Reading Twitter

10:00 AM – at a VR or tech conference / at a film festival or meeting an interesting new VR company

12:00 PM – Favorite Lunch spot/meal?

Lunch with a VR partner at a casual and fun spot, hopefully outside so we can enjoy the weather.

7:00 PM –  Attending an arts or tech event in LA if I’m in town

11:00 PM – Reading Twitter

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

2 Diet Lemon Iced Tea Snapples for the caffeine. I don’t drink coffee. And lots of sparkling water.

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

Most used App: Lyft. I haven’t had a car since I moved to California. I work in Virtual Reality, don’t carry business cards and don’t plan on buying another car. I am just waiting for self-driving cars to take over.

Favorite Instagram is the Geena Davis Institute @gdigm which always posts insightful data and inspiring messages about the role of women in front of and behind the camera in media and tech. Did you know that 63% of women in STEM say that Dana Scully from X-Files served as their role model? Dr Scully was a doctor and FBI agent on the X-Files. Now imagine a world where young children saw many women and other underrepresented groups widely represented on screen and off-camera and got inspired towards achieving all types of leadership roles. That’s what the Geena Davis Institute posts about on Instagram.

What should everyone try at least once? Carnival in Brazil. If you can’t make it there, at the very least try the Virtual Reality version.

And traveling for pleasure alone.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

On the beach
