Mari is the CEO and a founding board member for the Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu (WSC), one of the fastest growing 501c3 non-profit cybersecurity communities dedicated to bringing more women and girls to cyber. WSC provides women with the resources and support required to enter and advance as a cybersecurity professional. Mari began her cyber career with Accenture where she excelled as a Network Engineer. With over 9 years of Information Technology, 8 of which are in cybersecurity, her experience spans network design, risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, incident response and policy development across government and commercial industries. She holds a variety of technical and management certifications (CISSP, GIAC, CCNA, etc) as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Columbus State University and a Master of Science in Information Systems from Strayer University. Mari is currently a resident of Las Vegas working to secure the Gaming industry of the south west. She regularly contributes content to security blogs and training companies across the country. Outside of being a geek, Mari enjoys arts, puzzles, and legos! @marigalloway
10 year cyber ninja with roots in network engineering and administration; A risk taker that can adapt to any situation whether government or private sector. My experience outside spans from professional cheerleading to customer service to armed security. Outside of work: a non-profit leader for the Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu empowering women and girls to lead. I also like legos, puzzles, and the arts!
My mom had interviewed with a contract company and they were looking for IT people. I had been looking for a job for quite a while but wasn’t able to find anything. I spent 8 years in the government space and the last 2 in the casino industry.
Training, AI– training because there are almost 3 million unfilled cyber jobs and there are plenty of people (women) out there that can learn and fill those positions. AI because that’s where we are moving; smart phones, smart homes, smart cars, smart cities. One of my favorite movies, A.I. Artificial Intelligence by Steven Spielberg, shows us what a future with AI could look like.

In the casino world, we want them to have a world class experience. From the food to the accommodations to the shows. When coming to our hotel, it is your vacation home to relax and rejuvenate.
In the nonprofit world, we want women to find their tribe and build their brand and skills. We want a community that inspires and nourishes success.
I motivate others through my behavior and interactions. By uplifting them and helping them see the potential in their skills and abilities.
There is no success without failure. Everyone is afraid to fail but don’t realize that failure is a learning experience. It’s the opportunity to do something again to get it right.
My personal goals, to live on an island and share my knowledge. Professional goals, to help build and guide up and coming organizations to achieve their mission.
Taking the risk to move across country to the land of the unknown.
Leading my volunteers. Its challenging because I am learning every step of the way while trying to ensure they have the best volunteer experience and want to come back and pay it forward.
“A friend knows all about you and loves you just the same.” This was on a plaque I had since I was like 5 years old and just travels with me to this day.
My mom has always been a role model. Watching her excel through the ranks of the military and then in the civilian world, helped shaped my own journey and path. In the business world, man there are so many: Lisa Jiggetts, Founder and President of Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu for giving me the chance to help lead this great org and providing the foundation; Jessica Gulick, CEO of Katzcy, LLC & WSC VP for constantly believing in my skills even when I don’t and for getting me to tell my story; Mary Chaney, CEO of The Law Offices of Mary N. Chaney, P.L.L.C. for sharing her story and advice and providing resources for others; Keirsten Brager, Leader, Author, all around amazing for inspiring me to keep pushing towards my dreams.
My goal is usually to put myself into all that I do. I try not to just do things because I can but because I want to.
How can I impact those around me? How do I motivate and empower my team.
Think positive thoughts. These are what motivates me to help others become successful.
Help someone smile. Smiling warms the heart and makes you feel good even when times are hard.
Just do it! Im straight forward and to the point. If you want to do something, just go for it and make it happen (as long as it is legal)
