How did you get into the industry?:

My mom had interviewed with a contract company and they were looking for IT people. I had been looking for a job for quite a while but wasn’t able to find anything. I spent 8 years in the government space and the last 2 in the casino industry.

Emerging industry trends?:

Training, AI– training because there are almost 3 million unfilled cyber jobs and there are plenty of people (women) out there that can learn and fill those positions. AI because that’s where we are moving; smart phones, smart homes, smart cars, smart cities. One of my favorite movies, A.I. Artificial Intelligence by Steven Spielberg, shows us what a future with AI could look like.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?:

In the casino world, we want them to have a world class experience. From the food to the accommodations to the shows. When coming to our hotel, it is your vacation home to relax and rejuvenate.

In the nonprofit world, we want women to find their tribe and build their brand and skills. We want a community that inspires and nourishes success.

How do you motivate others?:

I motivate others through my behavior and interactions. By uplifting them and helping them see the potential in their skills and abilities.

Career advice to those in your industry?:

There is no success without failure. Everyone is afraid to fail but don’t realize that failure is a learning experience. It’s the opportunity to do something again to get it right.

What are your aspirations? (Personal and Business):

My personal goals, to live on an island and share my knowledge. Professional goals, to help build and guide up and coming organizations to achieve their mission.

Biggest Success?:

Taking the risk to move across country to the land of the unknown.

Most Challenging Moment?:

Leading my volunteers. Its challenging because I am learning every step of the way while trying to ensure they have the best volunteer experience and want to come back and pay it forward.

“A friend knows all about you and loves you just the same.” This was on a plaque I had since I was like 5 years old and just travels with me to this day.

Favorite People/Role Models?:

My mom has always been a role model. Watching her excel through the ranks of the military and then in the civilian world, helped shaped my own journey and path. In the business world, man there are so many: Lisa Jiggetts, Founder and President of Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu for giving me the chance to help lead this great org and providing the foundation; Jessica Gulick, CEO of Katzcy, LLC & WSC VP for constantly believing in my skills even when I don’t and for getting me to tell my story; Mary Chaney, CEO of The Law Offices of Mary N. Chaney, P.L.L.C. for sharing her story and advice and providing resources for others; Keirsten Brager, Leader, Author, all around amazing for inspiring me to keep pushing towards my dreams.
