Career Snapshot:

Peter Darrow is a millennial, a native New Yorker, an entrepreneur, and an expert at learning from his mistakes. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philosophy from the University of Miami in South Florida. After college, Peter earned an MBA in entrepreneurship from Babson College in 2014. The following year, in honor of his Dad, he founded Darrow’s Farm Fresh in Union Square, a farm-to-table restaurant that focused on healthy and fresh dishes, juices on tap, and smoothies. While in operation, Darrow’s Farm Fresh received positive press including articles in Well and Good, AM New York, Sideways NYC, and Total Food Service. He recently founded a new company, Veggie Dust, the first ever vegetable seasoning for kids. A health and wellness entrepreneur with a passion for helping people, Peter wants to encourage others to break free from limiting beliefs and outdated values so that together his generation can create a happier, healthier, more beneficial society.

Native AdMission Statement (AKA Personal Brand Pitch):

My goal is to empower and inspire other young people to find their true inner happiness, and live more authentic, meaningful lives. In my book “Wise Millennial: A Field Guide to Thriving in Modern Life” (self-help/memoir, 2019), I discuss the importance of detaching ourselves from the messed up values we downloaded from society and our parents, and developing a healthy, strong ‘sense of self’.

What Else To Know

My Pic of the Day:
Tell Us More:

How did you get into the industry?

I’ve always been passionate about health and wellness. After earning my MBA from Babson College in entrepreneurship, I opened a large farm-to-table restaurant in Union Square, Manhattan (in part in honor of my late father, Peter V. Darrow, who passed away from myeloma cancer in 2013). Through my hospitality experience, I partnered with a lot of different wellness companies.

Any emerging industry trends?

I think millennials are tired of being told “this is how it’s been done”. They love to challenge the status quo and ask “Why?”. This can sometimes be confused by older generation as arrogance or entitlement, but it’s simply born out of a desire to make things better and more efficient.

Any industry opportunities or challenges?

Social media makes it really hard to discern truthful information. It also makes it increasingly difficult to distinguish yourself from all of the “noise”. Too many fake “experts”, too many illusions of success without any track record to back it up. It makes it very hard to get your message across.

Inspiration for the business idea, and your vision for the Business?

My journey stems from being on “both sides of the fence”. I know what it feels like to “have it all” and be on top of the world, living out your “dream”, and then quickly feeling like everything is being ripped from underneath you and falling without any end in sight. It’s from these contrasting, difficult experiences, that I wrote the book. My vision is to build a platform to engage millennials and young adults in difficult and thoughtful conversation.

Your most difficult moment at the Business?

Writing a book (and being an entrepreneur generally) is a tedious process, filled with many unknowns. No one is there to do it for you; you have to provide your own answers to your own questions by being extremely resourceful. For me, writing was a very emotionally draining process. Many of the stories I tell (such as the day I lost my father) require re-hashing old memories and reliving them, in order to most accurately describe them to the reader. It’s exhausting.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?

I hope that readers will walk away feeling empowered, connected, and with a greater sense of self-esteem and self-confidence.

How do you motivate others?

Lead by example. Don’t your actions on what other people think, or worry about being judged. Hold yourself to a higher personal standard, regardless of how it may be perceived or whether anyone will notice.

Career advice to those in your industry?

Don’t be afraid to be bold. You create your own reality, so take ownership of all your wins (and failures!).
